The Adam Smith Experience
Flash Back- A final whisltle stop tour

In less than 12 hours a new term of uni will have begun. Which means lots more work, but more importantly, it means that I have failed in my perhaps over ambitious endeavour to fill you in on all of the events that got me from Christmas to Easter before the new term began. In fact, I barely got you out of January. So, it looks like I’m going to have to resort to the mega listing technique I threatened at the outset. Here, in a nut shell, are all of the things that I remember doing between the social at Cellar 35 after essay hand in, and the week I met Joe Hill:

- I went to the ‘Exploding Poetry’ exhibition reviewed in my previous post.

- Kenton and Jane treated me to an all you can eat buffet in The Agraa, in Leopold square.

- Viki, Bish, Kenton, Jane and I all went to the Showroom Cinema to watch Invictus, which is a great film. Afterwards we ate food in The Graduate, which was slightly less impressive.

- Viki and I went to a frankly bizarre research seminar about ambient noise in the C18th which ended in a discussion about bird songs.

- The fair came to town and I risked my life with Kenton on Jane on a selection of rides, one of which had an apparent disregard for health and safety.

- Kenton, Jane and I made our own Chinese buffet by ordering and sharing a selection of dishes in East One. We also got tricked into buying bottled water.

- Kenton, Jane and I went to Space, completely out of the blue. It was utterly spontaneous and utterly brilliant. We also saw Viki, briefly, in Bar One.

- Viki, Kenton Jane and I got lunch in Vittels. They made us some amazing Turkey and Stuffing sandwiches.

- Pancake day- Viki invited Kenton, Jane and I around to hers and made us pancakes whilst we drank wine from pint glasses. Ah, student life.

- Kenton, Jane and I managed to get free tickets to watch a play called ‘Enemy of the People’ at the newly reopened Crucible Theatre. Gripping stuff.

- After another research seminar about bird songs, Kenton, Jane, Kaja and I randomly ended up playing pool in Bar One, before walking down to Reflex to enjoy a quick dance on the pole. The next day we got breakfast in Vittels, and then in the evening watched The Wolfmanat the Odeon and got dinner in The Globe.

- For the first time I went to Winter Varsity, with my architect friend Adam, my medic friend Sarah, Abi from Gothic and my old house mate Graham. The game was ice hockey, and the teams were Shef Uni and Shef Hallam. Sadly, Hallam won, but it was a bloody good game.

- Viki, Kenton, Jane and I tried out Sushi at Sakushi. It was nice, but you paid a lot of money to get very little. Literally, it was almost £5 for a prawn in a leaf.

- Kenton, Jane and I ended up at a Nuts Girl party at Cellar 35.

- Kenton, Jane and I had dinner at Pho 68. This was a Vietnamese restaurant on London road. It was amazing.

- I met my old house mate James in Manchester, and we went to two cinemas in the same day, watching The Lovely Bones and The Crazies. The second one was better.

- I went to Sheffield to watch England vs Ireland in the rugby six nation. I ended up watching it in The Place with Bish, Kenton and Jane. I also had a pie whilst I was there, and it was the most disappointing pie ever. To rub salt in the wound, England lost.

- Kenton, Jane and I struck off to meadow hall to see if the sushi was any better at Yo Sushi. They did a slightly better deal, but I think it’s still more expensive here than in the US.

- I watched Avatar in 3D with mechatronic Tom at Cineworld. Afterwards we went for a drink in The Wig and Pen and saw Viki.

- It was pie week in Bar one. We went almost every day.

- I got a really bad cold and missed out on what sounds like the biggest night out ever.

- Viki, Bish, Kenton, Jane and I all went to a Media Day held at Uni, where figures from the industry came and did talks and answered questions. Afterwards Kenton, Jane and I discovered the Nintendo Wii in Bar one and went to watch Alice in Wonderland  in 3D.

- I watched Zombieland and Kenton and Jane’s. We were then joined by Viki, and we went for drinks in The Fox and Duck. Sadly Viki had to go home, but we went on to Spacefor a fun and random night where we bumped into Bish, and then had to use all our skills to get our coats back after a fire alarm!

- Completely by chance, I managed to get to have coffee with my friend Laura from Doncaster and her boyfriends Tom.

- Viki held a special screening of Marie Antoinette at her house, the first film on my new film module, and Bish and I went to see it. Afterwards I wandered into Broomhill and had dinner in The Place with Kenton and Jane.

- It was St Patricks Day, and we went to go meet Joe Hill, but you can read all about that, and what happened after than, elsewhere on this blog.

So, basically, that was that. Hopefully, the new term starting in the morning will be just as action packed.
